Lubricants

Lubricants are substances used to reduce friction between surfaces that touch, helping machines and equipment run smoothly. They also reduce the heat created when these surfaces move against each other and can help carry force or small particles. Most lubricants are from base oils, with added ingredients to enhance their performance.

There is a wide variety of lubricants available, each with its unique properties and applications. Mineral oil lubricants, derived from crude oil, include types like aromatic, naphthenic, and paraffinic oils (Group I to V). Synthetic oils, primarily made from petroleum, encompass Poly alpha-olefin (PAO), poly alkylene glycols (PAG), phosphate, synthetic esters, and other specific compounds. Solid lubricants include materials like PTFE (Teflon), various inorganic solids, and certain metals or alloys.
Aqueous lubricants, which are water-based, are used in special applications like brush polymers. Bio lubricants come from natural, renewable sources like vegetable oils, including whale oil, castor oil, canola oil, and sunflower oil.
